Getting Vista to work with Applications!Expand / Collapse

Hi,

I've had windows vista on my laptop for over a year (it came with it)
and it's pretty slick and clean looking but why isn't it compatible with
a lot of software! like for instance, the window's chess game...worked
twice then never worked again...always gives the "executable for chess
game has stopped working". I gave up on that. another one,
iTunes...has numerous problems in running. Now, I've just recently
gotten the sims 2 deluxe and it was running okay but now I've gotten an
expansion pack for it and the game works okay once after installation
then will no open again and gives me an error. "The application has
crashed and will now terminate" I've tried absolutely everything (and
making sure my games and applications meet the system requirements, and
they do, running it in compatibility mode, updating my sims games which
open for business update will not update after installing it once. It
works if i install it immediately after I install OFB..but even then
so, it crashes after one time playing the game!)

So, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 comes out, I immediately get it,
although the first time I couldn't get it from off your site, I had to
for some reason get it from my update manger. It took forever but
installed (great!) but then when I rebooted ect...half my applications
gave me errors like MSN live messenger. It wouldn't even boot up!
Crashed. So I uninstalled it and MSN is working again. My games never
worked after the install either. What can I do to make my games work
and get rid of those errors?? Help!

Annoyed Vista User...

Sounds you have some kind of hardware problem - maybe bad RAM. I'd send
the laptop back, assuming it's still under warranty.

Lots of possibilities, including the fact that a lot of game (or other
programs) programmers like to use tricks to gain a little speed or other
advantage. They test it out with current operating systems, but when a new
operating system comes along it may not work because that undocumented
"feature" the programmer used had been deleted or changed.

Solutions Center control panel after you Check for Solutions?

Well, this is my last hope, I swear...if this doesn't work ill try a
clean install and if that doesn't work...goodbye vista...going to head
backwards to XP! a more stable OS!!

If anybody else has any other suggestions please feel free to let me
know! I'm gain for anything, although I've tried almost everything out

I apologize - I didn't see you post fault details here. What are those? I
can potentially attempt to see if there's useful data in that chunk of
information if you post it up. =)
