My new Dell laptop has C140 Gb) and D10 Gb). D: is a recovery drive. i want to create more partitions.Disk management shows that four partitions are already created on basic disk.

can i delete D: and proceed with shrink option or do i need to reinstall vista.

You can only have 4 Primary partitions on a single drive. If "D" is a Logical partition, you can make room and create another Primary partition. If you're only looking for room for data storage, you can make room and create another Logical partition.

If you remove "D", you will not be able to recover the Dell image. Something to think about.
