Hi,

I intend to perform a clean install of my XP Home Media Center (32 bit) with
Visa Ultimate 64 bit UPGRADE package. I'm doing my research online before
attempting this weekend.

I want to do a clean install. My question is that I'm seeing (I think) some
contridiction in how to do this. I've got the MS article 932795 which says
that I boot from the Vista 64 bit CD - and simply install from there (using
custom install). I've read at a couple of other places, that I START the
process by starting with the Vista CD - and once that process has completed,
I start an upgrade process from within Vista ultimate.

Can someone help with my confustion? Why can't I just clean install from
the CD and be done with it? Why would I have to go through a second phase of
'upgrading' from within Vista Ultimate?

Many thanks for your time. Patrick

Going from 32 to 64bit requires a clean install, in one go(A full version
disk!)!
You can not upgrade.

If you were doing an XP 32bit to Vista 32bit you could run an upgrade disk
from inside a running XP, then redo it again to get a clean install, which is
not condoned by MS anyway.
