I know that there is a sticky about this, but i posted a question there a few weeks ago and i don't think anybody has seen it there. so i posted it here to get some more attention.

My problem is that i tried deleting the wmp folder from the registry like WAW8's post said. However when i restarted vista, it didn't do anything. Is there something missing?

thanks.

I haven't done this myself, but I've seen several reports where this is supposed to work exactly as described. Don't know why Vista is failing to detect the absence of the registry folder.

You can't remove the SW itself because it's built into Vista.

All I can suggest is using a Vista DVD and entering "sfc /scannow" from an elevated command prompt to force Vista to look for, and replace, any missing system files.

Some other things you can try:

Delete the following folder:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

Locate and delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer

Then, reboot.
