Windows Vista and XP Games

Hi all,

I am looking at a gaming notebook that has Windows Vista Home Preimum installed. I play all older games like Ghost Recon, Delta Force 1, 2, Blackhawk Down w/ Team Saber, Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 03 04 05 06. Will I be able to play these games on Vista or will I have to downgrade to XP?

Close Combat 5 multiplayer

Hey all,

im having a problem with my fave game. Its an old one, Close Combat 5 from 2000. I can get the game to work in single player, no problem, but VISTA has for some reasons erased all the buttons in the multiplayer section so I can host or join via UDP, TCP.

Why does Vista remove these buttons? Is there a security option to change so they are brought back? I dont use the firewall, but I see it has some options anyway, and the game has access like other games i do (that do work)

Is there a way to allow connection via IP in vista, a way to fix my problem?

I recently played Alexander the game on my computer but then i got tired and i wanted to uninstall it but when i try to do that it tells me that it [font=Arial Black][size=5]cannot load a string table, application will terminate[/font][/size]

Please help i dont know what to do i dont what this game anymore

Black and White 2 and Vista?

Anyone have problems running Black and White 2 on Vista? I'm using Build 5600 RC1 and whenever I try to play BW2 it seems to be working once I'm in the game for about 5 seconds, then the sound chops up and stops altogether, as well as the game. Ultimately it ends with me watching a still screen of the last thing I did for about 10 minutes, and then restarting my computer. When playing on XP I ran the game at 1280x1024 with everything on high (minus anti-aliasing) and it ran about 30 fps constant. Any ideas? I'll try using the Vista drivers instead of my nvidia Vista drivers first.

System reboots sporatically with games

My system will run games like Call of Duty 4 and JointOps most of the time.

But sometimes it just reboots in the middle of the game.

No error message, just a restart.

I use an nvidia video card. I hear that their drivers have problems in Vista?

I know there is an option in Vista to turn off reboot on error. But this is set NOT to reboot

after an error.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

G'day all, I have got a new laptop with Vista home basic on it. I tryed running CS 1.6 and I get this error: Half-Life Launcher has stopped working. Windows is working on a solution. Then after a little while i get A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the problem and notify you if a solution is available. Could somebody please give me a hand with this?

Cod4 redirect issues vista 64bit

I have another friend who is trying to get mod files via server redirect.

He has the usermaps. But when the server tried to redirect the iwd files he timed out. So I had him go to his mod folder and create the awe4 mod folder. It asked him 2times to approve it. then after the folder was created he tried to reconnect and its still timed out. so i gave him the back end of the redirect and he got them manually. Still cant connect to server and the redirect is still trying to download, which it shouldnt cause he already put the files where they are supposed to go.

Are these files supposed to go in the same spot for 64 bit vista users? None of the other OS users have any issues at all. any ideas?

Memory question

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but since I mostly have trouble with it in games, I'll try it here. When I check my directx diagnostic, it shows 3gb of system ram. When I flip to the display page, it shows me having 1.518gb of "approximate total memory" for my graphics card. This can't be right, as I run an 8500 GT card that definately doesn't have 1500mb of memory. I'm worried that somehow my ram is being hijacked by my graphics card. I'm not really computer savvy as you can no doubt tell. But that's what these forums are for right? Thanks in advance for any explanations.

1.Click StartStart button, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

2.On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3.Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
4.Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5.Click OK, and then click Restart.

After the computer starts, test the game and see whether the problems occur. If the problem does not occur, continue to Method 3 to determine what is causing the problem.

I have the latest nvidia drivers for my 8800GT 512, i also have sp1 installed and some hot fixes, I cant get my mouse curser to draw in my neverwinter nights and my UFO trilogy cames, my hellgate london keeps shutting down. does anyone have any suggestions for this please?

I just recently installed windows vista ultimit 32 bit everything works great the only problem is i cant run my games. when i try to run the games it load them then i get the blue screen of death sad.gif. like games like cod4 americas army bf2 and such. my computer consist of 2.4 amd dual core cpu 2 gigs of ram radoen x1050 with latest vista drivers installed and i think thats all you need to know really for vista to work but i cleaned my reg because i was reading forums that said to clean reg. but if somebody would please respond it would be greatly appreciated...smile.gif

Empire Earth II- Locks up CD drive in Vista, help?

I know old game, but new to me. I just got a new Dell with Vista. I installed Empire Earth II just fine without any problems but when I tried to play the game it didn't start and then it wouldn't eject the CD. At one point in time I recieved an error message that said I was missing a dll...file or a mbll....file or something like that. But I can't seem to get that error message again. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have played other games and so far no problems.

Hey, I've been having some major issues with running The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind on my new laptop. I've got the current setup, all stock:

160gb HDD
2gb RAM
Amd Turion 64 x2 TL-60
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M ( MCP67M )
Vista Home Premium 32bit

The graphics and gaming performance number for my laptop is a 2.6, which is pretty low.. but I'm pretty sure it should run just fine on here considering how well it runs on my 2 year old Compaq with XP. Other people have Vista, but don't have this problem..

..The main problem is with my FPS. It stays at a unstable 11ish FPS at nearly all times. Looking to the ground causes my FPS to shoot up to about 30-35, but this does no good since I can't walk around staring at the ground! I've tried installing DX9c, but my computer still registers DX10 running. I've tried fiddling with settings on the NVIDIA control panel to no success. The only way it seems to get good framerates is to set my resolution to 640x480 with draw distance all the way down and pixel shading off. :(

Any advice?

I have a computer running Vista with an nVidia GeForce 8500 graphics card, 4gb of RAM, and an Intel Quad processor running at 2.4 gHz. When playing video games my graphics card is always the limiting factor slowing everything down. I've already tried overclocking it and that did very little... Is there any way to have the graphics card allocate some of its load to the cpu's or memory?

Help with Sims 2: University Exansion Pack

I installed the Sims 2 University expansion pack on my 32-bit Windows Vista, and the first time I played it after installation, everything worked fine. However, everytime after that, when i try to move the sims into any of the dorms, they're frozen. There is music from the stereo playing in the background, but even if you try to give the sims an action, they won't move. Sims 2 usually works fine with no problems, but now that I've installed University, normal sims doesn't work either (I can't make houses & the sims are unresponsive). I've tried right clicking on the desktop icon already and changing the system compatibility to XP and "run as administrator", but nothing has worked. Help would be appreciated! [By the way, this is the first and only expansion pack I've installed].

Recently bought a Vista gaming rig and installed all my games on it including Trackmania Nations. Trackmania wouldn't work so I took it off, but now everytimeI start the computer, I get a pop-up bubble which says the the drivers have been blocked due to incompatibility.

Does anyone know how to get rid of starforce and stop the really annoying bubble?

I have installed Emergency 4 (www.emergency4.com),and but the time I wanted to Run the games it loads Intro and by the time it had to go into the game menu game stops and quits to Windows! I have tried to set up compatibility mode for XP SP2 but with no sucess!

Gaming and Vista?

While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP?

Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

Wondered if anyone has tried this game yet, there are very conflicting reports on it and now the lead design on the project has been sacked due to his telling interviewers it's crap, they rushed the final stages of it, it's had no play testing at all and virtually no 'cleaning up and optimizing', he thinks basically it's as rough as a bears rough bits.

Pundits in the industry though talk about it being the first game that actually does define a new genre as opposed to all the recent ones which were supposed to but in reality didn't. I would like to try it for myself but I'm put off shelling out for it and as yet they don't appear too interested in releasing a trial............yes there have been 2 for the 360 on 'live' but not a sniff for the PC.

Hi guys. I'm actually having a problem with FM07. When I double click fm.exe the game load and show all the spons/ads as usual but after the ads all I can see is black screen with a ball on the right bottom of the screen. I used to play FM07 on win xp and everything is fine.

Problems occur when I changed to win vista. Anyone can help? =(

Im having a problem with patching Spellforce Order of Dawn/Breath of Winter Gold eddition on Vista 64bit The game seems to have installed ok and seems to play ok, but when i come to patch it with either 1.38 or 1.52a patches it comes up with the error in the title. Can anyone help? I really want to patch it as i dont think its worth playing without it. Are there any patches out for Vista to allow the patch to work or does anyone know of anything that can be done?

I just downloaded the demo to see if I want it for Xmas. All of the characters, buildings, and anything that moves, are either lime green or white. Also I adjusted the screen resolution to 1280 x 768 and now only a fraction of the game is showing.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it Vista or the demo?

Okay, seing how my laptop didn't alow me to play RA2 full screen, i bought Command and Conquer 3. Now it does play full screen, but when i play a skirmish or any other game windows errors and says the program stopped working.
