Sorry about the slow response to the problems lately. I am little overwhelmed w/ work and its hard to keep up when problems arise. Everything should be operation from now on.

Search for Normal users has been turned off temporarily

The site has been under heavy heavy load every time someone does a search. To the point where the server becomes completely unresponsive until the search ends. I am going to integrate google search into the top so users will need to use that from now on. Moderators can still access the search but use it sparingly and DO NOT SEARCH THE ENTIRE FORUM, instead select the forum from the list in which you believe the topic is in before and try that first. A forum wide search is very resource intensive.

If you havn't noticed already you cannot send a PM to anyone. I am working on this. I wanted to let everyone know that I was aware of the problem and will let you know when it is fixed.

Future Forum Software & Direction of VistaForums.com

Okay folks after much deliberation and hair pulling incidents w/ the current software. I have decided to not change..for now. Doesn't make sense right?

Well I recently talked w/ the developer of the current forum software and he will be rolling out an update version which fully supports xhtml strict standards, fully utilizes asp.net 2.0 and will include many bug fixes including Firefox related problems will be fixed.

This update is expected first quarter of 2008 which could be anytime now. So I am opting to hold off on any software changes temporarily until I can roll out this new update. If the new update is sour I have another software package in mind which we will switch to promptly. By waiting for this new update it will save a lot of money and time assuming it fixes our problems. Switching to new software will require more time to implement our current design and further delay future features.

I am waiting on the new update before the new design is rolled out, as it has been done for a while but has some incompatibilities w/ Firefox because of the current software version not supporting xhtml css standards. I am also holding off on many of the improvements I promised earlier as modifying the old code is pointless since I will have to do it all over again w/ the new update.

It shouldn't be more than a month or so, I know some of you are having problems with the current software and I am doing my best to temporarily patch it up. I apologize for any inconveniences.

Desktop Icons

Every time I replace a icon on my desktop, after I use them for web or a program, they go back to the default icon. I tried changing the properties to read only after changing them, and they , most of them still change back to default icons. Anyone have this problem and what is the fix if any. My HP computer with Vista Home prem. is new. I asked HP about this and I get the runaround on the problem.

Is this the right place to ask for a feature, or how to activate it? I want to log on automaticly to this (and other) sites. What do I need to do? I'm running Vista Ultimate, registered, as it comes out of the box. Mostly. Dreamscapes are nice.

Compacting the boards

I've consolidated some of our not so popular forums into a single forum. Such as Audio & Video and the customization section. I think this is a good idea so forums don't get all deserted without posts for a few days, and it makes it easier on members to find where to put their post. Let me know what you think.

Updated Member level images

I realized that the post count for the member level images was set too low. People with over 100 were already at the maximum level. ( I am talking about the # of bars you have out of 6) below your name when you post. I adjusted them and added a couple new levels. So if you see your member level is lower don't be alarmed, everyones is.

New "Network Support" and "Backup & Recovery" Forums

I added a individual network support forum today to help handle lots of the network problems people are having with vista. This helps relieve the bombardment in the technical forum. I also added a "Backup & Recovery" forum as well as reorganized the forums in the security area to better suit us.

[b]All mods I need your help moving topics [/b]to the correct forums. Lots of people are posting technical things in the intro or lounge. If you respond to a topic make sure its in the correct forum otherwise move it accordingly. Thanks a lot. By the way if you see any network topics which have not been moved to the network support forum feel free to go ahead and move it. I tried to move most of them but I know I missed some.

New "Upgrading & Compatibility" forum

I Added this today, seems like a good idea as a lot of upgrade/compatibility questions get brought up and bog down the technical forum. I am in the procces of moving a lot of the posts over to the new forum which are related.

Any help from moderators would be appreciated. If you see an old post about either subject go ahead and move it into the new forum.

Joining Technical/Hardware/Internet Forums

Lately I decide to combine the Hardware Discussion,Technical Discussion, and Internet Connection discussion into one forum. They all seemed to cover the same categorys. This seems to help centralize all vista support question. and make answering them a lot quicker. Hopefully this will work out better.
