Well first of all I own the original Vista dvd but I did make my own lite version, the question is, It is possible to install sp1 or sp2 in vista lite?
Now, if there is no way to do that, sp2 is worth formatting?
I don't really want to do that, anyway... thanks in advance and pardon my English I think I need to practice a bit more. :sick:

I have just downloaded Vista SP2, but when I double click it it says it cannot be opened (sort of like an open with file, i think it is)..When downloading I put "(SP2)" at the end of the filename. Could that be the cause?

It downloaded properly and successfully.

I can't really download it again because I have a download limit which is low as it is.

Please Someone help.

I had problems with Maxthon browser. I decided to re-install after removing Maxthon. Naturally I hit a major barrier. Frst I got this error message:

Error opening file for writing:
C:\Users\Charles Booker\AppData\Roaming\Maxton\Maxthon.exe

I tried to directly remove "Mathon" and Maxthon.exe" from the AppData sub folder. Vista Home Premium prevented it even though I was Administrator. I used Regedit to remove all Maxthon associated entrys. Still got the error message when I tried to reinstall. I even tried to install Maxthon under a newly created user - still got the same message. I tried changing permissions, access denied by Vista. I tried to claim owner - Vista denied permission.

Needless to say this is frustrating and infuriating. Did I pay Microsoft for an OS which basically tells me to get lost?

Yod'm 3D is a virtual desktop manager that allows you to have 4 different desktops arranged on a 3D cube. Holding down CTRL+SHIFT and using the left or right arrow keys rotate the cube showing the virtual desktops. Alternatively, you can click and drag your mouse to switch desktops.

Internet connection stops

Dell E520 vista home premium, after using internet, the browser stops working, I have to reboot to regain the connection. This only happens maybe twice a week or so, and after I've been on the internet for a few hours. I changed the connection to a seperate D-link connection with the same results. I have firefox, Opera and IE8, Opera is my primary no since firefox has problems of its own. It doesn't matter which browser is on line. Can someone shed some light on this?

This is freeware which comes as is and is on the current PCFormat mag. DVD I have tested it, it works well and as it's a stand alone program (no installation) there's no danger of disrupting other processes.

I do recommend this but have nothing to do with it other than wishing to share it with other members but as with all these things it comes as is, no warranties or support, basically use at your own risk, all I would add is that if your not sure with 'context' menus you might remove some menu items that you really ought not to have, so if it looks a bit complicated to you, then you should probably not use it. I do know this doesn't apply to most of our members.

Running Links 2003 in Vista

Description sort of says it all have Links 2003 championship Edition video game. Seems to download alright into puter with Vista Home Premium OS, but then doesn't want to open. Opens on "Verifying Media" window, inser Disc 1" and goes no further.

Understand there is a patch, had the info, but misplaced. Any help[, please.

Vista drivers won't work for my flash drive

I can't get either one of my flash drives to work on my new Toshiba laptop. Basically the only USB device that will work at this point is a mouse. I update the drivers, and then get the code 1 error message stating that while the appropriate drivers were found, there was a problem loading them. Anyone know anything about this?

The new Text-To-Speech voice engine Microsoft Anna is better than Microsoft Sam on the Windows XP, narrator on vista can speak more clearly. It's a good choice to use the Text-To-Speech softwares to protect our eyes.

Microsoft Text-To-Speech(TTS) voice engine has been installed by default on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, you can find what voice engines have been installed on the computer by following Control Panel->Speech->Speech Properties->Text To Speech tab->Voice selection drop down window. For example, the voice of Microsoft Sam has been installed by default on Windows XP, and Microsoft Anna on Vista, and the voice of Microsoft Anna is of good quality.

I have tried some text-to-speech softwares such as MS narrator and panopreter , I prefer panopreter, now I listen to files with it, it is an easy-to-use Text-To-Speech application, it also converts files into wave and mp3 files, when I listen to the audio files, my eyes feel better. I think it's better for it's free and powerful.

And I do try Deskscapes by Stardock. Believe thats what you call it. Fully animated desktop. A freeware version allows you to try 3 different deskscape scenes. This is one thing you get with Vista Ultimate but, not with other versions of Vista. There are lots of free Deskscape scenes and some you have to pay for also. Alas I would surely suspect you need a good fast machine with a decent video card to run it, as I would assume it's cpu intensive for sure.

By default, the rotation of the cube is done with the keys CTRL+SHIFT+Arrows :

Install Directions:

Once you have downloaded the .zip file:

Open the file
Extract to the following directory: "C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets" Replace "C" with whatever the drive letter is in which you installed Vista on.
Once extracted if you navigate to that folder you will now see a folder named "VistaForumsV1.Gadget" along w/ the other .gadget folders.
Your Done!
Just go to your sidebar, right click > "Add Gadget". And scroll down until you see the Vista Forums gadget, right click and drag it over to the sidebar.

Enjoy.

Object Dock - Get a Mac OSX Dock for Windows!

To get object dock head [url=http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/]here[/url] and download the free version. Once downloaded install the object dock and the dock should appear above the task bar. This has some of the basic docklets loaded into it and can easily be modified.

To add docklets simply drag programs or shortcuts to the dock and it will add the shortcut to the dock automatically, without altering the original location of the program/ shortcut you are dragging into it.

Once you have all the programs you want in the dock certain dock icons may not look very nice, but this can be easily changed! Right Click the docklet whose image you want to change, select 'Dock entry properties'.

Here you can change certian info about the docklet as well as the image. Clicking change image allows you to select either and image that comes with object dock, or you can your own image to it by selecting browse.. and then going to where your image is located and selcting open.

Now you may be wondering how on the image at the top of this thread there is no background behind the dock, well this can be created easily. Right click in a blank space on the dock and go into 'Dock Settings'.

Go into the appearance tab and you can change cetian things like the Size and background of the dock. To make the background dissapear move the slider to 'Transparent'. Be carefull however as certian backgrounds alter icons slightly so make sure you have a background selected which your happy with first.

You should now have a pretty nice dock for windows now, but there is still more things you can do to make it look just right! Try changing certain things in the 'Dock Settings' window. Some cool vista only stuff can be found in 'dock contents' tab such as windows flying to and from the dock itself! 'Postioning' tab can be used to make the bar reserve space, so that you can still access the bar in maximised applications. Separators can be added from the 'Docklets' tab.

What is Start++?

Start++ is an enhancement for the Start Menu in Windows Vista. It also extends the Run box and the command-line with customizable commands. For example, typing "w Windows Vista" will take you to the Windows Vista page on Wikipedia!

Some more examples:

Typing "sudo" followed by a command will run that command with elevated (admin) privileges. Super handy from the command-line as well!

Advanced functions can work with search results, powered by Windows Vista's integrated desktop search engine. For example, typing "play radiohead" will find all music that matches the query "radiohead", compile the results into a .M3U file, and launch it in your favorite media player (actually, it only uses Windows Media Player for the moment, but that will change soon).
