I've been using Daemon Tools for drive emulation with Vista Home Basic(came with the computer). Well a friend of mine bought a copy of Vista Home Premium. She never installed it because her pc didn't meet the specs so she gave it to me. I upgraded to Home Premium and bang my Daemon tools doesn't work. I figured maybe I need to upgrade Daemon Tools, so I do to the newest version. Every time I try to install it, it asks me to reboot, I reboot it goes back into the install and then again asks me to reboot. Endless loop. So I figure maybe DT doesn't like Home Premium so I download a copy of Alchol. Try to install it, same thing. I would appreciate any help as it apparently is something on Vista's end and mine not allowing the installation. Thanks for your help on advance. BTW I've tried everything in the DT forums,so please don't send me there

Ken:)

No audio device

I have completed a clean install of Vista on my Dimension XP400 after attempting to upgrade with little success. I decided to buy all my hardware as "Vista Ready" however a lot of it seems to have computability issues with the hardware. Everything including my hard drive is SATA. I have decided to reformat to XP because my hardware just doesn't seem to have the proper drivers for Vista and unfortunately the companies of the hardware aren't putting out any new drivers =\. I purchased XP and am ready try a reformat loading from the CD drive. I saved all my disks for all my hardware and will make sure I have all the XP drivers needed for each piece. ^^

HOWEVER, I read about SATA issues with XP installation especially with the hard drive. I had read posts online like this one about doing a reformat to XP on a computer:

"Also if your using Sata hard drives and your sata controller is in compatability mode and not ahci you should not need addional drivers for the controller. If you do need the Sata drivers be sure they are on a floppy and use the f6 install to specify the controller drivers."

1. How can i make sure my sata controller is in "compatibility mode" and not ahci? My motherboard literally has all SATA and I can only assume then that I am naturally in "compatibility mode"......is this right? Is there an option in my bios to check to make sure its in "compatibility mode"?

2. The quote above says to make sure I have SATA drivers on a disk........is this quote just talking about the drivers that my hardware (which is all SATA) need in order to make my computer user ready?

I am not completely computer retarded, but I am just worried about reformatting my computer and screwing up. I was wondering if SATA hardware is going to have trouble with XP or something. I'm scared but I want to switch back to XP. The vista is arguing with all my hardware. It's a disaster. =(

Please offer any advice you may have. I love to learn about computers so honestly this is fun for me. ^^ Thank you and wish me luck lol. ^^

Can't load RAM

Hi forums. It has the Vista home premium installed. Its a Satellite P105-S6197 laptop. I have had it for about 3 weeks and it just started to not allow my internet explorer to come up. It would come up 1 time and then would not respond after that. I did put a few downloads on the computor but nothing important. This is my 4th laptop I have owned but my first with vista. My 2nd Toshiba laptop. Anybody else had this?

Last night I was disgusted so I ran it through the Toshiba recovery disk and whiped it clean. The disk worked without a flaw and now I am back to where I was after I first bought the laptop. This time I made a restore point right after the recovery disk did its job. But I am still at a loss as to why the problems.

The control panel was not responding as well as the movies when I tried to play them. Even the uninstall programs refused to work.

I am glad to say that now everything is working great. I think the only real update to the laptop was a

HP printer 7410 software I added.

MS Office 2007 full version I added

MS Office 2007 Proffessor

I did add Sony Sonic Stage ver 3.2 for network walkman it never did work I tried to download the vista version online and did but never did get it working. But that was early in the first days and had not problems until about 3 weeks later. Just throwing this out there just in case someone else has had this problem. Like I said its now fixed due to the reformatting disks.

About to install SP1, anything I should know beforehand?

Basically I don't want my compy to stop working at this point as I have far too much important stuff on it. Nobody else having the issue, right??). It gets through 100% of stage 3 of 3, then after a minute or two says the "Setup did not complete. Reverting changes." message. Before the Microsoft super wizard got on the phone with me, I had already done a memory scan, chkdisk, scannow, file cleanup, defrag, nothing helped (I have Home Premium, and I do have the two required updates installed as well). When he connected to my computer, he tried to install right off the bat (a stupid thing to do, considering I wouldn't be calling if I didn't have the issue) and it of course failed. Then after checking to make sure no antivirus etc was active (which I uninstalled the day before) he disabled all non-Microsoft services from startup and disabled my TV card, sound card and graphics card, then tried again. Still didn't install. Lastly he installed some kind of tool from Microsoft's update site and tried to install SP1 again, this time from the standalone 500+mb version. No luck.

He scheduled a call today between 3 and 5pm from one of their research and developement team members to get deeper into the problem, but do any of you have any ideas what's going on?

Here is my computer and it's specs:

Dell Inspiron 531

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
2GB DDR2 RAM
320GB HD (168GB Free)
DVD±RW
22" Widescreen flatpanel Dell monitor
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTX
Windows Vista Home Premium

I've been working as a software engineer and in the I.T. industry for 15 years now, I have no idea why this thing won't install.

Dual Boot Vista - Linux

After successfully installing a dual boot of PCLinux OS on my laptop running MS Vista Home Edition and playing with it (Linux) for a while, I rebooted my laptop.

Everything went fine, I was able to choose MS Vista in the GRUB boot menu.
Vista started fine...looking good looking good.

THEN....some weird thing happened in Vista, I had problems with my Windows Explorer, problems with detecting my external hard drive.

I rebooted and then....CRASH!!!! I need to install Vista first, because it's the OEM version. I'll leave room on the disk for a partition for XP when I install Vista, so I won't have to shrink the Vista partition. Otherwise, I'll follow one of the many guides out there for installing XP second (recovering the Vista boot sector and all that.), like the APC guide linked in the sticky at the top of the forum.

I have a question about drive letters. When I install Vista, it will be on the C: drive, and the partition that will eventually hold XP will become D:. When I install XP, and when I'm running XP, I would like XP to map the second physical partition that I reserved for it as C:, and the Vista partition as D:. I don't want XP to think it's on D: when it boots, just to avoid the hassle of things like driver installation programs that shouldn't be, but are sensitive to stuff like that. (Plus you just get used to having Windows on the C: drive). In other words, when I boot Vista, I'd like it to map partition 1, its boot partition, as C: and partition 2 as D:. However, when I boot XP, I'd like XP to map partition 2, its boot partition, as C: and partition 1 as D:.

If I follow the usual procedures to install XP dual boot, will this happen automatically, or is there some magic I can do (Disk Management in control panel or whatever) that will achieve this effect?

incompatibility issue with a supposed compatible program
Hi, I am new here and new to Vista. I have a Toshiba dynabook TX/67E running Japanese OS Home Premium and can't get a number of programs to run.

The program is Neuroprogrammer.

For those of you who are more computer literate then me and could help, here is a breakdown of the APP crash. If I can't get this to work, then I will have to reinstall the OS from scratch.

Hope someone has some ideas as to how to solve this! I want to dual boot, so I bought the retail version of XP. My reasoning was that I won't need to transfer the Vista to a future PC, but if I upgrade down the road, I'd like to move XP to the new machine. (Vista may be fine, but to borrow from the late Charlton Heston, MS can take my XP away from my cold dead hands!)

So, my guess is that I need to install Vista first. However, I'm wondering if that's true. The OEM version won't upgrade a partition that already has XP, but does it insist on a completely unformatted disk? If I already have an XP partition, can the OEM version of Vista leave that alone and install one a new, second, partition on the disk?

(I have a related post about how to get both Vista and XP to see their respective boot partition as C: and the other partition as D:. )

Blue Screen crashes with USB since installing SP1

I have a USB HDD (powered) ... all working OK with any of my PC's
SP1 installed .. since then if I turn on the USB HDD when VISTA running it crashes .. bluescreen and creates dumps.
If I try to start PC up with drive already switched on PC will not start, keeps rebooting once it gets to Windows splash screen.

The USB HDD still works fine with other PC's ... as I use it daily for backups and file storage.

Did SP1 screw up USB ??

The last time it worked OK on VISTA was immediately before the SP1 upgrade when I took a full system back up .... since then it will not work with VISTA.

After a crash .... I want to completely wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. The install of Ultimate is fine until it gets to "completing installation" and it hangs up and quits responding. I've tried re-installing Home Premium (disc I received with laptop) and it does the same thing. Now I cannot get anything installed.

My guess would be something to do with the SATA drivers. When I get to the drive screen, it shows the drive and when I select Disk Driver, nothing is recognized. I've tried using the downloadable drivers from Gateway and noting appears compatible with my system.

I saw another post topic in this forum with the same probem but not sure if it was ever resolved. The moderator mentioned changing the BIOS to disable EIST and to change the SATA mode to IDE from AHCI but this laptop has Phoenix BIOS and I cannot find anything in the BIOS to change either setting.

The hard drive is a Hitchaci HTS542516K9SA00 and I cannot find drivers for this drive anywhere.

Am I missing something? Do I need to pre-install some other type of BIOS/motherboard drivers for this to work?? Also, I keep reading that I need a floppy drive to install SATA drivers but I thought this was only the case with XP??? When I select Hard Drive Drivers in the Vista install, is this not the same way to install SATA drivers?

Any and all help will be greatly, greatly appreciated...
David

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS TO INSTALL A SECOND TIMES MY WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE

HI EVERYBODY , I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY PROSPEROUS YEAR 2008
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS TO INSTALL WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE , I AM GETTING INSTALLATION ERROR CODES OX 80070241 CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME TO RE INSTALLED MY WINDOWS VISTA AGAIN. So here is the deal I know my computer will handle Vista but Im curious how well. I will be getting Vista Ultimate as this is what is available to me. My question is how well well my hardware handle it? Here are my specs.

AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology
TL-50 1.6GHz 246KB + 256KB L2 cache, up to 1600MHz system bus
I currently have 1 gig DDR2 but am upgrading to 2 gigs DDR2 RAM
120 Gig Hard Drive 5400 RPM
and a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Graphics Card with up to 128MB shared memory.

So what do you think. And yes I am not too technically savy when it comes to the parts of a computer.

Thanks for any input.

P.S. Love the site so far. I'm pretty sure that i'll have tried everything in that thread anyway...

Can anyone help with this matter?
Thanks

[SOLVED]weird problem when trying to boot from dvd

Hi all.
