router is netgear wireless n

the hp and gateway are in two different rooms and not physically connected. both pc are connected to the router/internet via wireless connection. i have two switches, one connected to each pc's onboard lan card. i have devices connected to the switches that used to connect to the internet but now they don't on the vista systems. using my xp laptop i can get to the internet through the switches. thanks for the replies.

When networking suddenly stops working, and you KNOW that you have made no changes on your own, it's time to turn OFF automatic Windows Updates, check for drivers changes, and start doing System Restores. I can see that you've done some of this, but much as I hate to say it, Windows based System Restores don't seem to do much good. I've had instances where the restore claimed to work, but when I checked the driver versions (which I knew were updated after the restore), the new versions were still there.

I do full image backups and recovery using third party products simply because System Restore doesn't seem to work in Vista. Full-image restore does, however, but you have no real options than to blow away your whole hard drive in the process.

Since you've tried the "easy" things (driver rollback, and System Restore), and they haven't restored your network connection, and you've already tried all the troubleshooting tips we've provided in the pinned posts in the Forum -- I hate to say it, but a full reinstallation is probably going to be the only thing that will restore network connectivity.

If we had a miracle cure, we'd post it. Sorry.

Sharing my intenet connection...

this is my basic setups:
machine #1: gateway e4300, pci netgear wireless n adapter shared, onboard lan 10/100/1000 marvell. the onboard card is connected to a router that i have set up in switch mode.
machine #2: HP Slimline Pavilion, Netgear USB wireless n adapter shared, onboard lan 10/100, the onboard card is connected to a switch.

these two systems used to work fine sharing my internet connection to the switch and to the devices connected it to them, an xbox 360, hd-dvd player X 2, dish 622. now these devices cannot connect to the internet anymore through the switch. i haven't changed any settings on the machines it just stopped working on both systems. i didn't notice until my dish reciever told me to reconnect to the internet so i won't get charged the dvr fee. i've gone through all the steps available that i'm aware of in the network page and nothing works. the lan connection shows up but it will not connect to the internet it says "local only". the 360 is seen by other pc on the network when it's on but can't go out to the internet. i connected the switch to an XP laptop sharing a wireless card's connection and all the devices connected to the internet through the laptop. the gateway has been updated to sp1 the hp has not and the problem started before i was even aware it was available. i rolled back the driver on the gateway's lan card and it didn't help. on the gateway there were two updates installed for the onboard lan one in october and the other in january. i couldn't find them in the list to un-install so i don't know if that could be the problem on the gateway, i haven't investigated on the hp yet. can anyone please help i need to get this back working cause dish charges me to not have their reciever connected to the internet and i wanna do some online gaming occaisonally.
