I have tried several times now to remove what I guess are the default
programs from the left side of my start menu. I remove them from the list
but as soon as I restart the computer they come right back. What do I have
to do to make them stay gone?
Thank you.

If you just ignore them the ones you don't use will go away.

Hi Kat,

If you mean from the "All Programs" part of the Start menu and not the
"Pin" area, then this tutorial may help you get rid of the shortcuts.
Check to make sure that they are removed from both Start menu locations.

Hope this helps,
