| hi everybody
i have vista home premium on my laptop and a few days ago it was configurating 3 updates. All was ok except the fact that when I restarted next day it did exactly the same ( one of them takes like forever).
eversince when I start the laptop get to this screen sayin: configurating 1 of 3 updates please wait.
i have disable the automatic download/install of updates but with each restart it seems to be disable.
I run a backup and it seemed to work for 1 time but I still have the same issue.
How can I cancell that update configuration and go back to normal?
Many thanks

| The configuration message means that the download had already been done and Vista is installing it. Some updates can only be done from WinPE, so you will see that message not when you logout, but when you login again. It will keep giving you that message until it finishes the update. If the update was SP 3, it could take a LONG time to finish -- like, over an hour.

| | Yes it takes a while and then it finishes and restarts and then goest to the automatic repair and when that finishes and restarts then it all goes ok but then I switch it off and start again it is the same story over and over is like if the system didnt save the configuration of the update and keep trying over and over.... |

| Sorry, misunderstood what you were doing ...
Only two courses of action come to mind that don't wipe out your install. First, if you have Vista boot media, you could try a Repair Installation.
But if that doesn't work (and I'm betting it probably won't fix it), then read through the repairing windows update pinned post. Since you can't get into windows, you'll have to boot to a command line and do everything with commands.
If that doesn't work, looks like a reinstall is the only thing left!
