Hello, I hope someone can help me.

I have windows vista on my laptop and have a d-link DIR-300 router connected to a DSL modem providing wireless internet.

This has worked flawlessly for months, then, while online 3 days ago, I got a Error 691 message (incorrect password or username) in the middle of a session.

I have checked and double checked my details to no avail.

Since then I have had to get a new password from my Internet Provider several times and have now established, that when I run the new password dierctly by cable to my DSL modem it works.

BUT, as soon as I set up my router I get the Error 691 messages again. Not only that, but when I revert back to the cable and modem (switching off and completely bypassing the router) I also get the Error 691 message there. The password is then no good anymore!!!

I have also noticed that when I use a new password that works that is, let's say 8 or 9 characters long, after trying to set up my router it shows a 16 character long password that I can't read (just black dots). Thereafter, even if I manually type in the actual password into the dial up field it reverts back to a 16 character password i can't read when I press connect.

Even when I delete all connections in control panel and set up a new connection the password doesn't work anymore and I have to get a new one from my ISP.

This is very frustrating and I don't understand why this should occur all of a sudden.

Does anybody know why this happens now? Can somebody please help me?

Thx,
anna

This could be LOTS of different problems, so there's no simple solution.

Suggest you start with the MS KB article linked below and see if any of the proposed solutions fix the problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314455

ASUS A832nSLI-Deluxe, AMD 64X2 4400 OC 2.4GHz, 2GB OCZ,
Running: Windows 7, Vista 32-bit, Ubuntu 9.04
