| Hi, I currently have Vista Starter installed in my system. However my brother gives me this genuine Vista Ultimate DVD but he lost it's license key..
My question is, can I reformat my PC and install Vista Ultimate then use the Starter's license?

| No -- licenses are unique to the version for which they were issued. To use Ultimate, you would require a license for Ultimate.

| Perhaps you didn't understand my response ...
You must install the Vista version that precisely matches the key you have.
You can not install one version, and then activate with the key for a different version.
The license keys are all version-specific.
Also, once a key is used, its activation gets recorded at Microsoft on their activation servers. IF you try to use the key a second time, it's very likely that you'll get some kind of error indicating the the key is already in use.
